Introduction

The Trilogy:

The Last Norseman is a series currently compiled of three books: Book I: The Road to Idavoll; Book II: The Land of Fire and Ice; and Book III: The Well of Urd.

Set during the viking era, it immerses the reader into a world where fantasy is weaved into viking myth and legend. To realms occupied by gods and giants; where familiar names such as Odin and Thor appear, as it follows the story of a young aspiring viking with little hope of every ascending beyond the filth and squalor of his home. Until that is, he is approached by a man proclaiming to be a messenger for the gods, who with the promise of a solitary wish should he succeed, coerces him into the service of his paymasters in the undertaking of an impossible quest.

Joined by a shy Wood Troll also tricked into his service, the book takes you a remarkable journey of discovery and friendship that reminds us of the true value of integrity and honour. Conjuring images of primeval landscapes long since forgotten, The Last Norseman will tap into your emotions and leave you breathless as our heroes struggle for survival in a world that pits them against bandits, Dark Elves, Ulvmen and a final confrontation with giants. It draws upon friendship and the indomitable will of the human spirit to conquer adversity in the face of overwhelming odds that will leave you begging for more.

Here is a brief combined synopsis of the three books:

Asgard is under threat, a mighty charm has been stolen from its vaults and Odinn wants it back.

Ulrak knows he is different, deemed a no-hoper by all but a few, he has been the butt of cruel jokes all his short life, but that is about to change.

Trond, a shy Wood Troll is worried. His beloved trees are dying and no one can tell him why.

Thrown together by the duplicitous Odinn, Ulrak and Trond embark on a fantastical journey in search of the fabled Well of Urd, the charm stolen from  gods in Asgard. Imprisoned in Jotunheim by the evil giant Skrymir,  they must return it to the gods before it reveals the secrets that will ultimately lead to the destruction of  them all.

Their road takes them through Svartalfheim,  land of the Dark Elves, where within its frozen wastelands, they are forced into the dark depths of the ancient forest Kvalkrwuud.  Home to the Ulvmen, hybrid monsters, half-wolf, half-man., it is amongst the twisted boughs of the forest that the hunt begins and their survival hangs in the balance as the Ulvmen close in. Barely escaping with  their lives, they are chased underground by pursuing Svarts into the catacomb of tunnels that run endlessly beneath their barren land.

Finally escaping the claustrophobic confines and caverns of the Svart domain, they arrive at the mountains that shield Jotunheim and a secret passage built by men of old. Amongst the rocks and ice, they  evade huge mountain-lions and marauding ogres as they scale the snowy peaks to the secret gateway and its keeper, the terrible fire-worm Nidhogg.  The road from his lair takes them deep in Jotunheim to the great Citadel where the Well is held captive and to a final, crushing confrontation with its nefarious keeper, Skrymir.

Set in a time when the vikings ruled the northern oceans, The Last Norseman chronicles our two heroes'  adventures as they travel through  the make believe realms of Norse mythology in search of the mystical  Jotunheim. Different by design and  nature and each with their own reason for accepting the quest, they forge a bond so strong that  even the combined might of the enemies of mankind can  break.

Manipulated into the bidding of the Aesir, Ulrak is their puppet, or so they think. But he has a will and a mind of his own, one that not even the great All-Seeing Odinn can control!

"Let us go to Valhalla with a smile on our faces"
